Full course description
The Georgia Cyber Center WorkForces Program was created for veterans and military spouses to learn or refine their IT and cybersecurity skills for the vast IT sector opportunities right here in the CSRA.
- The July Cohort will conduct classroom training between 26 July and 8 August 2021
- Paid Work-Based Learning Opportunities follow successful completion of training (Internships, OJT, Apprenticeships)
- The program goal is full-time employment in IT/Cyber for program participants!
ONLY underemployed/unemployed veterans or military spouses are eligible to participate in the WorkForces Program. Transitioning service members are also eligible to enter the workForces program after their military exit date at no cost. Veteran's or military spouses that are employed in a middle-high earning job are not qualified.
1) The first step is to register here. The application platform will guide you through the process of applying for the program.
2) You will need to complete all the assignments in the application (to-do list) by 30 June 2021. Once your eligibility has been verified and we have validated you are a good fit for the program, you will work with staff directly to submit the remaining application requirements.
- There are no costs associated to the program, however applications may be asked to obtain and submit a background check. The cost of the background check is the responsibility of the individual applicant and is not reimbursable or recoverable. This cost varies per the individual, but generally can be expected in the $25-35 range.
Who Is a “Veteran”?
A veteran is defined as a “person who served in the active military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.
Active Service Criteria for Veteran Status
A claimant must have “active military, naval, or air service” to be considered a veteran.
In general, active service means full-time service, other than active duty for training, as a member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.
Length of Service Criteria for Veteran Status
For people who enlisted prior to September 8, 1980, no minimum length of service is necessary to be considered a veteran. However, certain minimum length of service requirements applies to people who enlisted on or after September 8, 1980. The general requirement is the “full period” for which the servicemember was obligated, called to, or ordered on active duty.
Veteran Status for National Guard and Reserve Servicemembers
Members of the National Guard and reserves who have:
· Served 20 years or more of qualifying service
· Members called to federal (title 10) active duty and serve the full period for which they are called
Who is a “Military Spouse”?
A military spouse refers to:
· Any individual that is married to (having a valid marriage certificate) an Active duty, National Guard, or Reserve member.
· Any individual that has survived a spouse that was killed in the line of duty while serving in the armed forces, or was rendered/has been awarded a 100% disability rating by the VA.
Who qualifies as a Transitioning Service Member?
A military member that is:
· 24 months from retirement
· 12 months from exit of service (non-retirement)
Who qualifies as Under Employed?
Individuals who are not currently connected to a full-time job commensurate with the individual’s level of education, skills, or wage and/or salary earned previously, or who have obtained only episodic, short-term, or part-time employment. This may also apply to individuals making LESS than $15/hr.
